The death of Jesus

Matthew 27:45-56
  1. 45Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
  2. 46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
  3. 47Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
  4. 48And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
  5. 49The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
  6. 50Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
  7. 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
  8. 52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
  9. 53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
  10. 54Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
  11. 55And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
  12. 56Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.

The burial

Matthew 27:57-61
  1. 57When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathæa, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:
  2. 58He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
  3. 59And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
  4. 60And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
  5. 61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

Matthew 27:62-66
  1. 62Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
  2. 63Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
  3. 64Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
  4. 65Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
  5. 66So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

The resurrection

Matthew 28:1-10
  1. 1In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
  2. 2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
  3. 3His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
  4. 4And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
  5. 5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
  6. 6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
  7. 7And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
  8. 8And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
  9. 9And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
  10. 10Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

Matthew 28:11-15
  1. 11Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
  2. 12And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
  3. 13Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
  4. 14And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
  5. 15So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

The Great Commission

Matthew 28:16-20
  1. 16Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
  2. 17And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
  3. 18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
  4. 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
  5. 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus heals a paralytic

Mark 2:1-12
  1. 1And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
  2. 2And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
  3. 3And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
  4. 4And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
  5. 5When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
  6. 6But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
  7. 7Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
  8. 8And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
  9. 9Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
  10. 10But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
  11. 11I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
  12. 12And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

The calling of Levi

Mark 2:13-17
  1. 13And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
  2. 14And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphæus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
  3. 15And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
  4. 16And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
  5. 17When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mark 2:18-22
  1. 18And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
  2. 19And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they can not fast.
  3. 20But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
  4. 21No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
  5. 22And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

  1. 23And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
  2. 24And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
  3. 25And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
  4. 26How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
  5. 27And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
  6. 28Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
